As part of the SRIE2016, the European Commission organises its annual Security Research Event (SRE) on 1 & 2 June 2016 at World Forum in The Hague, The Netherlands. The SRE offers a Conference with panel discussions and Expo, where the European Commission presents their latest projects in the field of security.

The Commission aims at highlighting the role of security research to foster the implementation of EU policies, and presenting the financial support of the Horizon2020 to promote concrete research and innovation projects. More info on security research here. The programme, elaborated in co-operation with ENLETS , will address the end-users` needs to explore how political priorities can be transformed into concrete security research projects.

A number of innovative projects will be showcased in the EC stand of the Expo among which:
- SUBCOP (Suicide Bomber Counteraction and Prevention)
- BONAS (Bomb factory detection by networks of advanced sensors)
- HYPERION (Hyperspectral imaging IED and explosives reconnaissance system)
- ICARUS (Integrated Components for Assisted Rescue and Unmanned Search Opperations)
- SAFEPOST (Reuse and development of Security Knowledge assets for International Postal supply chains)
- EDEN (End-user driven DEmo for cbrNe)
- GIFT CBRN (Generic Integrated Forensic Toolbox for CBRN incidents)
- EASME (The Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises)
